Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) is a non-polar adsorbent specifically engineered for the separation of nitrogen from air under ambient temperature and pressure swing conditions. HK-CMS-200 is a premium-grade carbon molecular sieve manufactured from high-purity elemental carbon, appearing as black cylindrical pellets with a uniform particle size distribution. The material contains a substantial number of micropores with diameters of approximately 4 angstroms (4Å), which exhibit strong instantaneous affinity for oxygen molecules. This unique pore structure enables CMS to preferentially adsorb oxygen from compressed air, producing a continuous stream of high-purity nitrogen for a wide range of industrial applications.
HK-CMS-200 is the preferred adsorbent for Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) nitrogen generation systems, offering high nitrogen production rates, excellent gas recovery efficiency, and long operational life. It is widely recognized as a cost-effective alternative to traditional cryogenic air separation, delivering on-site nitrogen at significantly lower capital and operating costs.
CMS separates air based on the principle of kinetic selectivity. At equilibrium, the adsorption capacity of CMS for oxygen and nitrogen is relatively similar. However, the diffusion rate of oxygen molecules through the narrow micropores of CMS is substantially faster than that of nitrogen molecules. Under the short adsorption cycle of a PSA process, this difference in diffusion kinetics allows oxygen to be preferentially adsorbed while nitrogen is enriched in the product gas.
The PSA process operates using a continuous two-bed cycle.
Compressed and purified air flows through the adsorbent bed. Oxygen molecules are selectively adsorbed onto the CMS surface, while nitrogen passes through the bed and is collected as the product gas.
Once the adsorbent approaches oxygen saturation, system pressure is reduced. The adsorbed oxygen is released, regenerating the CMS for the next adsorption cycle.
By alternating between two adsorption beds—one in adsorption while the other regenerates—the PSA system provides a continuous nitrogen supply without external heating, making the process highly energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Note: Performance varies with operating conditions. HK-CMS-200 achieves 200 NM³/h·t at 99.5% nitrogen purity under standard operating conditions.
High Nitrogen Production Efficiency
HK-CMS-200 delivers excellent nitrogen output across a wide purity range. At 99.5% nitrogen purity, it produces approximately 200 NM³ of nitrogen per metric ton of CMS per hour. Even at 99.99% purity, it maintains a production rate of 70–75 NM³/h·t, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications.
Low Pressure Drop and Energy Consumption
The optimized pellet size and bulk density (630–700 g/L) minimize airflow resistance, reducing compressor power consumption and lowering overall operating costs.
High Mechanical Strength
With compressive strength exceeding 95–100 N per pellet, HK-CMS-200 resists crushing and attrition throughout repeated PSA pressure cycles. Extremely low dust content (≤100 ppm) helps maintain clean adsorbent beds and prolongs system life.
Long Service Life
Under normal operating conditions, HK-CMS-200 typically provides a service life of 5–8 years, maintaining stable adsorption performance through thousands of adsorption-desorption cycles.
Stable Performance
Each production batch undergoes strict quality control to ensure consistent particle size, bulk density, and adsorption characteristics. HK-CMS-200 can directly replace many
On-Site Nitrogen Generation
HK-CMS-200 eliminates dependence on high-pressure gas cylinders or liquid nitrogen deliveries. Nitrogen purity and flow can be adjusted to meet process requirements, and optional purification systems can reduce oxygen levels below 5 ppm with dew points below −60°C.
HK-CMS-200 carbon molecular sieve is widely used in PSA nitrogen generation systems across numerous industries.
