HVAC Energy Recovery

High-Efficiency HVAC Solutions for Commercial Buildings

Smarter Energy Recovery for Sustainable HVAC Systems

Looking to cut HVAC energy costs, enhance energy recovery, reduce carbon emissions, and eliminate maintenance headaches? ACT has the solution. Our passive Heat Pipe Heat Exchangers offer a smarter, more efficient alternative to mechanical energy wheels, delivering up to 70% energy savings with a typical payback period of just two years. With no moving parts, our passive heat pipe technology maximizes HVAC energy recovery and efficiency—eliminating the need for motors, belts, and bearings, while reducing maintenance requirements.

Why Traditional Energy Wheels Fall Short

Energy Recovery wheels have inherent limitations that can impact air quality, system design, and maintenance costs:

  • Air Leakage & Cross-Contamination: Imperfect seals allow unintended airflow,. This makes wheels unsuitable for applications requiring zero transfer.
  • Design Limitations: Wheels require side-by-side, equal-sized ducts. This restricts layout flexibility and increasing installation costs.
  • High Maintenance Needs: Motors, belts, and bearings demand frequent upkeep. This leads to higher
  •  operational expenses and potential downtime.

But there’s a better way. ACT’s Passive Air-to-Air Heat Pipe Heat Exchangers solve these issues. They eliminate cross-contamination. They offer flexible system design. And they require zero maintenance. The result? Significant cost savings and improved reliability.

Choose ACT for HVAC Energy Recovery

  • Reduced Energy Costs: Save up to 70% on HVAC energy consumption
  • Fast Payback: Energy savings payback 2 years
  • Minimal Maintenance: No moving parts significantly reduce maintenance requirements
  • Improved Indoor Air Quality: Eliminates cross-contamination for healthier environments
  • Design Flexibility: Custom engineering allows flexible system integration
  • Increased Reliability: Passive design ensures consistent and dependable performance
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: Contribute to sustainability goals by lowering energy consumption
  • Flexible Installation Options: Choose what works best for you—ship ACT the AHR, ship to your factory, or opt for on-site installation for seamless integration

Beyond these key benefits, ACT brings extensive expertise across a broad range of HVAC systems, from retrofitting existing setups to new construction and long-distance applications (up to 300′). Our solutions include both passive and pump-assisted HVAC systems, enhanced de-humidification projects, and designs that support LEED and green building certifications. We also provide advanced thermal management for hyper-scale and co-located data centers, as well as mobile edge computing.

How 3M Optimized Cleanroom HVAC Efficiency & Reduced Energy Costs

When 3M needed a more efficient way to manage humidity and temperature in their cleanroom, they turned to ACT’s Wrap-Around Heat Pipe (WAHX) technology. By enhancing de-humidification and reheat efficiency, ACT helped 3M reduce cooling loads, lower energy costs, and improve indoor air quality, all while maintaining strict environmental control.

ACT’s Heat Pipe Heat Exchangers: The Solution

We offer two distinct heat pipe heat exchanger designs, each available in a variety of configurations to meet diverse application needs.

Air-to-Air Heat Pipe Exchangers

Split Airstream Solutions | Horizontal or Vertical Installation

Our Air-to-Air heat exchangers (AAHX) use a series of heat pipes to transfer energy between the outgoing exhaust air stream and the incoming air stream. The cool (summer) and warm (winter) air leaving the building is used to pre-cool or pre-heat the incoming outside air.

Wrap-Around Heat Pipe Exchangers

Dedicated Outdoor Air System

The Wrap-Around (WAHX) system includes a pre-cool and reheat coil connected by heat pipes around an existing air handler’s cooling coil. It enhances de-humidification and reheat efficiency, improving indoor air quality while reducing energy costs. By minimizing the need for gas or resistive heating, it supports precise temperature and humidity control, making it ideal for applications requiring optimal climate management.

Engineering Smarter Energy Recovery—Together

Our R&D engineers work side-by-side with HVAC teams when standard energy recovery solutions aren’t enough. Watch how we engage early to explore new thermal architectures, test ideas, and prototype solutions that cut energy use, boost IAQ, and meet tightening carbon regulations.
